Day 35: Recipe for disaster

7 02 2010

I accidentally set the cat’s tail on fire today. He’s ok and the few tiny flames that appeared were put out quickly enough he didn’t even realize what happened. I should explain that our cat is a bit of a scare-dy cat and remains on the kitchen counters to stay away from our dog. (It’s a long story). Today, I was in the kitchen cooking some chicken for tomorrow’s lunch. As I turned on the gas burner, I didn’t realize the cat’s tail was resting on the back burner of the stove. (You see where this is going?) I accidentally turned on the back burner instead of the front one I was planning to use. I quickly saw a few flames on his tail. As “Oh, shit!” flew out of my mouth, with one hand I turned off the burner, and with the other hand I put out the small flames. He didn’t even realize what had happened. Good kitty. No damage was done other than a few stinky moments of burned cat hair. And people wonder why I don’t cook . . . .
