Commuters in Europe have a new option for zipping through city streets. The Yike Bike electric bicycle was launched at EuroBike in 2009. According to YikeBike’s website, the small folding bikes are currently being sold in the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and New Zealand. (None in the US, so far.)

The 22-pound (10 kg) bike has an average speed of 12.5 mph (20 km/hr), travels 5-6 miles (9-10 km) on one charge, and folds up in less than 15 seconds. The average price tag is $4,450 (USD). You can read more specifics about the bike here

With a 12.5 mph top speed, they’re no faster than a traditional bicycle and I’m not sure there are many cities in the US where you could ride it safely in traffic (which may be why they’re not currently sold in the US), but it looks like fun. Check out their website for more information.

Today’s starting weight: 151

— Organic whole wheat english muffin with Nutella = 294 cal.

— Tonight we ate at a local asian restaurant, so I don’t know how many calories my meal had. I ate spicy chicken and vegetable stir-fry with brown rice. Yum!

— Fat free chocolate pudding cup = 60

Thanks for visiting. See you tomorrow.
