Day 79: Physical therapy and rotator cuff injuries

After 9 weeks of physical therapy for my shoulder, the therapist referred me back to my doctor, who I saw this morning. She’s referred me to an orthopedist next week. She expects he’ll recommend an MRI and, depending on the results, will most likely suggest surgery. I’m hopeful that there will be other options to try before surgery.

If surgery is required, I’m hoping I can put it off until later in the year when cycling season is over. Or at least after May. I really want to try the 100 Miles to Nowhere ride that I mentioned last night. I may not be able to do the entire 100 miles, but I at least want to try.

In the meantime, I’m continuing my stretches and the Kinesio tape. As pain allows, I’m still riding, but making sure to avoid hills and icing my shoulder after each ride.

Wow, I turn 40 and start to fall apart! Getting old sucks, but it’s better than the alternative.

— Chocolate, peanut butter, banana smoothie with low fat chocolate milk and low fat peanut butter = 385 cal.

— Low fat PB&J on whole wheat = 398
— 8 Rold Gold honey wheat pretzel sticks = 110
— 1 bottle Vitamin Water 10 = 25

— Chocolate Builder Bar = 270

— Turkey sub = 280
— 1 piece chocolate pie = 235 (est.)
