Day 101: Rootein Habit Tracker

14 04 2010

I read today about a web app called Rootein. I’ve repeatedly heard that it takes 21 days for something to become a habit. That is apparently the concept behind Rootein, which is a very simple online calendar device that allows you to create tasks to work toward a goal. Create a task (“walk 10,000 steps every day” as an example), check it off each day you complete the task and if you miss a day or two, Rootein will email you a reminder. According to the website, Rootein is “designed to make the serious task of building habits fun enough so you never lose interest.” Seems like an interesting concept so I figured I’d give it a try. Now if I can just remember to log in and check items off my calendar each day. 🙂

We attended the Mayoral Candidate Bike Forum tonight which was sponsored by the Louisville Bicycle Club. I’m not great at judging crowd sizes, but we estimated there were probably around 200 people in the audience. It was helpful to hear how the candidate’s stand on various bike issues in the Louisville area. I recorded audio from the event, so I hope to have time tomorrow night to edit some of it and post some audio links in tomorrow’s post. In the meantime, thanks to the Louisville Bicycle Club for organizing the event and thanks to the mayoral candidates who attended: Tyler Allen, Jackie Green, Hal Heiner, Jim King, Lisa Moxley, Jonathon Robertson, Chris Theineman and Shannon White. Stay tuned for more details tomorrow.

Today’s starting weight: 149
