Day 111: Junk food as addicting as cocaine?

A study by The Scripps Research Institute in Florida has found that bingeing on high-calorie foods can be as addicting as nicotine or cocaine. According to the study, overconsumption of high-calorie food can trigger addiction-like responses in the brain and that high-calorie food can turn rats into compulsive eaters in a laboratory setting.

I have no desire to ever try cocaine and I quit smoking 8 years ago, but maybe this explains why I have such a hard time giving up junk food. 

Today’s food journal:

Breakfast:
— Chocolate mint Builder Bar = 270 cal.
— 1/2 banana = 53

Lunch:
— Lean Cuisine Tortilla Encrusted Fish = 330
— Low fat organic chocolate milk = 180

Dinner:
— Grilled chicken breast with raspberry viniagrette sauce = 172
— 1 cup spinach salad = 6
— 2 dinner rolls = 155
— Iced tea = 0

Snacks:
— M&M’s (at the movies) = 236
— Mini drumstick ice cream = 140

Exercise:
— 3 miles on bike @12 mph average, 15 minutes (trying to beat the thunderstorms) = 124 cal. burned
