Day 112: Habits are hard to break

We had yet another day of rain today, so I rode the stationary trainer for an hour this afternoon while I watched the Fleche Wallonne on Versus. Nice to see Cadel Evans win. Anyone is better than Alberto Contador, in my opinion.  He’s good, but I really don’t like him. I’m a big Lance Armstrong fan, so I’ll root for him anytime he’s racing. Otherwise, I’ll root for anyone else other than Contador.

It occurred to me while I was riding that my bike rides seem to be stuck in a rut, just like my eating habits. I’m a creature of habit and I tend to eat basically the same meals until I get sick of them and have to do something else. When I go for a ride, many times I ride the same route through the same neighborhoods that I enjoy. The good part about that is I know how long it’ll take me to ride a certain number of laps around a particular part of the neighborhood. And I know where the tricky traffic spots are. The bad part about it is that I’m getting bored. So it’s time to vary my route. This week I’m promising myself to explore a new route. I plan to try riding through Cherokee Park. It’s one of the nicest parks in Louisville and has a great scenic loop that has a dedicated bike/pedestrian lane around the perimeter. There is one rather large hill that I made it up once last summer, but it almost killed me. I’m hoping I’m in better shape this year and can make it to the top easier. We’ll see. It’s not horribly steep, it’s just really long. At least to me it is. I definitely need some practice on hills. Riding them is the only way I’m going to improve. But I’m ready for a new challenge.

— Turkey sandwich on whole wheat = 222
— Small package Fritos = 160

Dinner:
— Alicha Doro Wot = 278
— 1 cup brown rice = 218
— 1/2 cup Kik Wot lentils = 60
— Iced tea = 0

Snacks:
— Skinny Cow cookies & cream ice cream cup = 120

Exercise:
— 1 hour bicycling on stationary trainer @ 12 mph average = 497 cal. burned
