Day 117: Swag bag for 100 Miles to Nowhere Ride

30 04 2010

Yesterday, I received my order from Twin Six – the bag of swag which is part of the registration fee I paid (along with 500 other people) to participate in Fat Cyclist’s 100 Miles to Nowhere ride on May 8. I’m hoping to ride the entire 100 miles, but since I’ve never ridden 100 miles before, that may be a bit ambitious, so Carrick and I are each committing to ride 50 miles. (And yes, it’s questionable as to whether we’ll even make it that far, but we’re going to give it our best try.) At least the registration fee goes to a good cause (LiveStrong).

Here’s what’s in the bag:

Items contained in the 100 Miles to Nowhere swag bag

— Twin Six’s “Fat Cyclist’s 100 Miles to Nowhere” t-shirt
— Timex cap
— White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Clif Bar
— A free online viewing of Ride the Divide
4 sample-size packets of DZ Nuts chamois lube
— Autographed copy of Aspire: Discovering Your Purpose Through the Power of Words by Kevin Hall
— 2 Camelbak Garmin-Slipstream water bottles. (I love the Camelbak bottles – they’re easier to squeeze than other brands I’ve tried and they don’t leak around the cap.)
Banjo Brothers mini seat bag
— 2 packs of Carbo-Rocket pink lemonade sports drink mix. (I’ve heard this is pretty tasty, so I’m looking forward to trying it.)
— A package of Clif Shot Bloks
— A package of Clif Shot Roks

All in all, a pretty good score, I’d say. Now if I can just make it through the ride next week. A co-worker was asking me about the ride a few days ago. She thinks I’m crazy. Our conversation was something along these lines:

Her: “Are you ready for the ride?”
Me: “Yeah, I’m excited about it.”
Her: “Have you been training?”
Me: “Nope. Haven’t really had the time.”
Her: “And you’re riding how many miles?”
Me: “I’m shooting for 50, but would like to do the whole 100.”
Her: “Have you ridden 100 miles before?”
Me: “Nope.”
Her: “Have you ridden 50 miles before?”
Me: “Nope.”
Her: “Hmmm.”
Me: “But it’s going to be fun!”
Her: “What happens if the cemetery where you’re riding closes before you finish?”
Me: “Then we’ll have to finish on the stationary trainers at home.”
Her: “Won’t that be incredibly boring?”
Me: “You’ve got no idea how boring.”
Her: “So, why are you doing this again?”
Me: “For a good cause, to challenge myself and to give you something to laugh at.”
Her: “You’re crazy. But good luck!”

Today’s food journal:

— Chocolate, banana, peanut butter smoothie = 385 cal. (I posted the wrong number of calories in the past couple day’s posts. This is the correct info.)

— Lean Cuisine Tortilla Fish = 330
— Diet Coke (first one I’ve had in months. It wasn’t that good.) = 0

— 2 pieces thin-crust pizza = 676
— Iced tea = 0

— Peanut butter Builder Bar (afternoon snack) = 270
— Ice cream mini Drumstick (evening snack) = 140

Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride!
