Today was the Kentucky Derby. Since Churchill Downs is only a couple miles from our house, I had planned to ride my bike over there, take some photos of the crowds and the traffic outside the Downs and post some of the photos tonight, but the weather didn’t cooperate. We had heavy rain and thunderstorms all day today, but the sun managed to come out just before post time. And as usual, the horse I picked didn’t win. Someday it will though. Someday. . . We did see one guy on the local news who bet $100,000 on the winning horse and ended up going home with $900,000. Wow!
Carrick and I wondered if there was such a thing as a bicycle derby, so we looked online and what do you know? There is something called “bike derby” or sometimes it’s called “foot down.” According to Wikipedia, the point of a bike derby is to maintain balance on a bicycle while causing other contentants’ to lose their balance and step or fall to the ground. When a contestant touches the ground, they are considered out of the derby. The winner is the last person still riding their bike. It apparently originated in Minneapolis and also plays a part in the Single Speed World Championships (which I’ve heard of, but know very little about).
I really fell off the diet wagon today, so I’m not even going to attempt to list everything I ate today. I won’t beat myself up about it though. It was Derby Day after all.
Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride!
