Day 120: A surprise bike trip!

3 05 2010

My birthday is coming up next month and Carrick is planning some kind of bike weekend. I have no idea where we are going or what we’ll be doing. (She’s good at planning surprise trips). The only information I can get out of her is that the weekend centers around bike rides — one will be on our own, while the other day’s ride sounds like an organized event. She said we may average around 20 – 30 miles per day. I’m really excited about the trip! I have a few things I need to do before we go:

1. Lose 20 pounds. In 30 days. Yeah, I’m sure that’ll happen.
2. Get better at climbing hills. (I’m happy to say tonight’s ride practicing short, but somewhat steep hills was less exhausting than last week’s attempt. And I realize that what I consider a “steep” or “significant” hill is probably nothing more than a bump in the road for most of you. But I’ve gotta start somewhere, right?)
3. Improve my tire-changing skills. I know how to do it (and have the tire tools), but I have a hard time getting the tire off the rim. Last time it took me over 2 hours. Thankfully, I was sitting in my living room instead of outside in the broiling heat while mosquitos ate me alive.)

The weather during tonight’s ride was absolutely perfect. A slight breeze, temperatures in the 70s and sunny. I took a few photos I thought I’d share:

Audubon Country Club and golf course

A little park in one of my favorite neighborhoods, Audubon Park.

One of the neighborhood streets. I love the big trees! Lots of birds were out singing tonight.

Azaleas from last week in the Audubon Park neighborhood. The Azaleas are beautiful all over town.

Today’s weight: 150 (considering I hadn’t weighed at all in about 2 weeks, I was okay with that number. Next time, I hope to finally be under 150 since I seem to be stuck there no matter what I do.)

Today’s food journal:

Breakfast:
— Chocolate, peanut butter, banana smoothie = 385 cal.

Lunch:
— Grilled chicken quesadilla = 264 (est.)
— Guacamole (about 4 tablespoons) = 100
— Iced tea = 0

Dinner:
— 1 soft pretzel = 483
— Iced tea = 0

Snack:
— Skinny Cow ice cream cup = 120

Exercise:
— 45 minute bike ride, 8.5 miles, 11.5 mph average = 266 cal. burned

Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride!
