Day 134: The 280-mile unicycle ride

17 05 2010

I thought the 100 Miles of Nowhere ride was monotonous, but this unicyclist is nuts. I’ve never heard of him before, but the UK’s Sam Wakeling holds a world record for unicycling  280 miles (450 km) in a 24-hour period. He rides a 36-inch wheeled unicycle with customized handlebars and air-cushioned saddle. Here’s an interview with Sam.

And to think I could barely make it 50 miles. On two wheels! I feel like such a slacker.

Today’s food journal:

Breakfast:
— Chocolate, peanut butter, banana smoothie = 385 cal.

Lunch:
— PB&J on whole wheat = 398
— 8 honey wheat Rold Gold pretzel sticks = 110

Afternoon snack:
— 10 whole wheat Ritz Crackers with pepperjack cheese = 290

Dinner:
— 1 soft pretzel = 483
— Iced tea = 0

Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride.
