Day 136: Who’s pissed at Versus TV?

19 05 2010

As I’ve mentioned before, I normally love the cable channel Versus, mainly because they cover cycling events (as well as other sports) that other stations don’t bother broadcasting. However, last night I was settled in on the couch watching Stage 3 of Amgen’s Tour of California when, about one mile from the end of the stage, Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen announced the station was switching its coverage over to pre-game hockey. HOCKEY? Seriously?! What the hell?! I don’t want to watch hockey! I want to watch the END OF THE ToC STAGE, DAMMIT! Who decided it was a good idea to change coverage one mile from the END?! And it seems I’m not the only one who’s pissed. Lance and the Bike Snob had their own comments about it. I expect Versus will continue to do this for the remainder of their ToC coverage (I record each broadcast on our DVR, so I’ve not seen Stage 4 yet), but I wonder if Versus will pull the same stupid stunt one mile from the end of the Tour de France? If they do, I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to hear a collective stream of cursing coming from many viewers.

Tonight, Carrick and I participated in the Ride of Silence. It was a great ride. Very respectful and emotionally moving with everyone riding in complete silence. I’ll have a full update with photos coming tomorrow.

Today’s food journal:

— Chocolate, peanut butter, banana smoothie = 385 cal.

— Jimmy John’s Slim Turkey sandwich = 401
— BBQ chips = 160
— Iced tea = 0

— Baked potato = 163
— 1 glass organic low-fat chocolate milk = 180

Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for visiting.

What a drag about the versus cycling coverage. Nice restraint on the food. I struggle with carrot cake. It speaks to me from afar.
I ran acros Yehuda cycling comics. Ever seen it?

I understand how you feel about carrot cake, Katie. I feel that way about cookies. And bite-size York peppermint patties. And Snickers. And chocolate cake. Oh hell … who am I kidding? If it’s got sugar, them I’m all over it? 🙂

I think I added a link to Yehuda comics not long after I started the blog. Good stuff on their site!

Are you going to join us on the 31st for the Mayor’s Hike & Bike? I think the bike route is about 15 miles.
