Day 144: GiltMan.com

27 05 2010

A friend of Carrick’s told us recently about a website called giltman.com. It’s a private club (free registration) that offers exclusive deals up to 70% off brand-name clothing, gadgets, books, sports accessories and other products. Orders are done only through their website (or by their iPhone app). We decided to register so we could check it out. Lucky for us, one of the sales they had the day we registered was for Cannondale and Pearl Izumi. We ordered a Cannondale Slice Plus II jacket (similar to this one, but a little different) – good for those chilly Spring mornings when it’s too cool for a short-sleeve jersey, but too warm for a heavier jacket. The retail price on the tag is $179. We bought it at giltman.com (during the sale) for $45. The package arrived in the mail today and luckily the jacket fits perfectly. (They do have a 30-day return policy for “store” credit on most items.)

Here’s how it works:

Membership is free, but you can only join my invitation only. If you’re interested in checking it out, let me know – I’ll email you an invitation. (Disclosure: I receive a $25 discount after a referred friend makes a purchase.) Sign up with your email address and a password. Each item they sell is brand-name and are not factory seconds. They offer at least one sale per weekday (sometimes more). Gilt Man sends an email everyday at Noon for the current sale items. Each sale is good for 36 hours. After that, it’s over. Quantity, colors and sizes of sale items are limited, so once something is sold out, it’s gone, but it’s a great deal. They’ll send you an email reminder when a new sale starts. You have a limited time (10 minutes I think) to complete your order, otherwise whatever you’ve placed in your cart goes back into the “store.” You can still purchase the item, but by that point it’s become available for others to view and/or purchase. If you see something is on a “wait list” it means that item is in another shopper’s cart. If the shopper changes their mind about the item, GiltMan will send you an email to let you know the item is available. You have 15 minutes after receiving their email to be able to purchase the item.

Each sale apparently has different products. Today, they don’t seem to have any cycling gear, but they do have one on various size Camelbaks. All are sold-out, but prices were great: $78 for a $175 pack.

All in all, I’m very happy with our jacket. Reflective accents are on the front and back trim, pocket openings and the front zipper. Three pockets are included on the back side with an additional pocket that zips. (Good for ID, money, keys, etc.) Great quality, quick delivery and a fantastic price! If you’re interested, let me know. Or if you’ve purchased from them before, let me know what you think.
