Day 182: Waterfront Independence Day Festival

4 07 2010

Tonight we’re riding our bikes downtown for the Waterfront Independence Day Festival. Several great bands are playing today (Betty LeVette, Arrested Development), but we’re most excited to see Michael Franti. We’ve been to his concerts a few times in the past and he always puts on a great show. If you’ve not seen him before, go check him out.

To make a great event even better, Bicycling for Louisville is providing free valet secure bike parking. They’ve offered this service for several events in the past year or so and it really makes a huge difference in the enjoyment of an event. While hundreds of people are stuck in traffic waiting to drive home, we are zipping through city streets with our bikes lit up like Christmas trees and we’re home in about 20 minutes. Pretty good deal.

What a crazy Tour de France stage today! Three crashes within the last 2 km (one blocked the entire road). Hopefully no one was seriously injured. I was rooting for Cavendish to win the stage, but he was caught up in one of the crashes. Alessandro Petacchi did a great job winning the stage and Cancellara keeps the yellow jersey for tomorrow.

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Today’s food journal:

Breakfast:
— Chocolate mint Builder Bar = 270 cal.

Lunch:
— PB&J on whole wheat = 398
— Ginger ale = 190

Dinner:
— I’m doing this post early today since we’ll be at the concert later tonight, so I’ve not had dinner yet. I’ll be back on schedule tomorrow.

Life’s a journey. Enjoy the ride!
