Day 213: Lance Armstrong announces Colorado’s Quiznos Pro Challenge race

4 08 2010

I admit I don’t have any clue who this doofus is, but according to an article on MSNBC today, UFC middleweight fighter Chael Sonnen thinks Lance Armstrong “… cheated, did drugs and gave himself cancer.” He went on to say,

“Well, instead of saying ‘Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don’t be like me,’ he actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million from this ‘Hey, poor me, let’s find a cure for cancer’ campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, ‘Look, here’s what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.'”

Wow. Let me just say I hope Sonnen gets his butt kicked during his next fight.

In other news about Armstrong today, he and Governor Bill Ritter of Colorado announced plans for the new weeklong Quiznos Pro Challenge stage race, scheduled to take place Aug. 22-28, 2011. Details are apparently still being worked out, but the race will include downtown, mountain and sprint stages. Host cities and teams will be announced soon. The race will be sanctioned by the International Cycling Union and USA Cycling. The Quiznos Pro Challenge and the Tour of California will be the only pro tours in the U.S. next year. (The Tour of Georgia and the Tour of Missouri were both recently canceled.) I look forward to learning more about the Quiznos Pro Challenge. Hopefully Versus TV will provide coverage.
