Day 214: Random thoughts

5 08 2010

A collection of random things I wanted to share:

A cyclist participating in a triathalon training session was injured in a bad crash in a remote area and had no cell phone signal to make an emergency call. She was rescued after she posted a tweet to her Twitter followers asking for help.

— Researchers have found that sugar, not just sodium, may be linked to high blood pressure. According to the senior author of the study, Dr. Michel Chonchol, “Drinking 2.5 cans or more of non-diet soda per day–or consuming an equivalent amount of fructose from other foods–increases your risk of hypertension by at least 30 percent.” I do pretty well with limiting my sodium intake and I stopped adding table salt to my food years ago, but considering how much I enjoy sweets and Diet Coke, I found this pretty disturbing.

— Who knew a dog could ride a bike? Maybe we’ll train our dog to do this. 😉

— Today was weigh-in day at Weight Watchers. I’m happy to report that I’ve lost 3.6 pounds! I’m sure I won’t lose that much each week, but considering I was on vacation last week, I’m very pleased that the scale moved in the right direction. Even in just the first week, I already feel better. I’m looking forward to the day when my pants become too baggy and I have to buy new clothes. Now I just need to work on exercising more. It’s easy to find excuses to not work out, but I have to change that mindset.

Today’s food journal:

— Strawberry banana smoothie = 4 points

— Spinach salad with an apple, a veggie chicken patty and Light Lime salad dressing = 5.5 points
— Diet Coke = 0 points

— Grilled chicken sandwich (minus the bun) = 3 points
— 1 cup homemade potato salad = 8 points
— Iced tea = 0 points

Life’s a journey. Enjoy the ride!
