Last night, I watched the documentary “Blood, Sweat & Gears: Racing Clean to the Tour de France” from 2009. Christian Vandevelde, David Millar, Allen Lim, Magnus Backstedt and Jonathan Vaughters made up part of the cast. The film followed Team Garmin-Chipotle/Slipstream throughout their quest to not only clean up the sport of cycling, but to hopefully win the Tour de France.
Following the team during the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Qatar, we see the riders struggle with the stress of racing, the wear and tear not only on their bodies but on their minds as well as on their families.
It was a fascinating look at the behind-the-scenes of professional cycling. If you’ve not seen it, I recommend it.
