Day 259: “Toy” bicycles at Meijer

19 09 2010

This afternoon we were out running a few errands and went to Meijer, one of the “big box” stores in town. I was poking around in the sports section of the store and noticed something that seemed a bit odd. The various bicycles that were on display (all mountain-bike types as most box stores seem to carry), were located not in the “sporting goods” section of the store but in the “toys” section. The sporting goods area was several aisles away, but since most of the bikes seemed to be adult sizes (with several kid’s sizes too), I wondered why they were in the toy aisle. Most other box stores such as Target, WalMart, Kmart, etc., seem to include them in the sports section. I wondered why Meijer was different? Even on their website, they’re listed in the “Toys, Bikes and Games” section (as opposed to “Sporting Goods”). Not that it matters, really. I was just curious.

Our weekly Sunday bike ride got postponed today. Carrick pulled a muscle in her back a few days ago and I was dealing with a horrible sinus headache for the last 3 days, so we decided we were in no shape to go for a ride today. I hate that I wasted a perfectly good Sunday and didn’t ride, but it was still a nice day (aside from the physical ailments): we slept in, got up and read the paper while we ate breakfast on the back porch, took a nap later in the afternoon, then went out to run a few errands and out for dinner. All in all it was a nice lazy Sunday afternoon.

Today’s food journal:

Breakfast:
— Whole wheat english muffin = 1 point
— Sugar-free strawberry jam = 0 points
— 1 glass LF chocolate milk = 3 points

Lunch:
— Amy’s organic mac & cheese = 9 points
— Iced tea = 0 points

Dinner:
— 2 chicken fajitas = 8 points
— 1/2 cup guacamole = 3.5 points
— tortilla chips (about 15) = 4 points
— Iced tea = 0 points

Life’s a journey. Enjoy the ride!
