Day 319: SoupByCycle’s Ian Ritchie hit by car

I learned today that Ian Ritchie, the SoupByCycle guy, was hit by a car yesterday while making deliveries. I’ve heard several details today from fellow cycling friends and according to a report by the Courier-Journal, Ritchie was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Frankfort Avenue and Ewing Avenue in the Crescent Hill neighborhood. A young woman driving a silver car hit the back end of Ritchie’s delivery trailer, shoving him about 3 feet into the intersection. The bike’s saddle was pushed into his lower back. Ritchie said the driver rolled down her window and asked if he was okay. Ritchied replied that he was not okay and needed her insurance information. The woman drove off. But luckily, not before Ritchie got her license plate number and provided it to the police. Ritchie was treated for a back injury at Baptist Hospital East and released this morning. [Disclosure: I work at Baptist East, where I’ve spoken with Ritchie a few times during his deliveries to our department. However, I was not involved in his treatment, nor do I have any details about his injuries.]

Ritchie’s delivery trailer has flashing taillights and is more than 16 feet long. If you’ve ever seen him around town, he’s pretty hard to miss. I wish Ritchie a quick recovery.

Today’s food journal: Today was weigh-in day at WW. I gained another .8 pounds, but it really wasn’t a surprise. I’ve been eating crap lately. I’m dreading Thanksgiving with all the temptations, but I plan to do the best I can and not eat everything I can get my hands on. Starting the first part of December, Weight Watchers is unveiling a new points system. I don’t know the details yet, but it’s supposed to be completely different (and somewhat easier). I’m looking forward to something new – I’m a bit burned out. I’ll post more about the new points program at a later date.

Breakfast:
— Organic LF yogurt with granola = 5 points

Lunch:
— Jimmy John’s Slim Turkey sandwich = 8 points
— Diet Root Beer = 0 points

Snack:
— WW brownie = 2 points

Dinner:
— Grilled chicken sandwich = 6 points (est.)
— Chips = 10 points (est.)
— Iced tea = 0 points

Snack:
— Skinny Cow ice cream bar = 2 points
